Like the Days of Our Lives . . .So Are The Sands of Nauset Beach.

As of this week, the wind; erosion has swept millions of grains of sand into three tiers: the first, only a few yards wide as I approach the water but miles long, stretching as far as Nauset Light, resembling Dayton Beach sans the cars.

The second, a step below, is as wide as a balance beam. And the third tier, closest to the sea, is the immediate sloping, shoreline brushed by the waxing and waning waves of the Atlantic Ocean. To reach this final destination, an agile explorer needs to take one large step down from the last plateau to discover the treasures receding waters leave behind.

My next visit, after a rain storm lasting twenty-four hours, will reveal a different picture. Reminding me of the temporal nature that is life on Cape Cod.
